Active Living

Most people who are paralyzed have heard this old saw: Before (injury or disease) you could do 10,000 things. Now you can do 9,000. So are you going to worry about the 1,000 limitations or concentrate on the bigger list of options still available? The Paralysis Resource Center leans decidedly toward the options side. In this section, we point out several areas to help folks become aware of many activities and outlets to get out of the house and into the community.

This section is dedicated to fun and to the satisfaction and renewal that come from living fully. Here's what you'll find:

Arts and Creativity  The language of the creative process is universal.

Fitness  A little bit of exercise does the body, and the mind, a world of good.

Recreation  Just for the fun of it, with friends and family, on land, sea and in the air.

Sports and Competition  There are numerous games to play, indoors and out, for the pure joy of doing it. There are details here if you want to get involved to win.

Travel  The great outdoors and beyond await your next adventure.

Brooke's Corner Life style topics, health concerns and a myriad of hot issues are addressed by Brooke Ellison.

Living with Paralysis  Short profiles of people affected by paralysis, spinal cord injury and disability.

Imagination Stage
Provides theatre arts classes to children and young adults with physical and cognitive disabilities.

The Paralympics
Are held every four years in the same years and venues as the Olympics.

The National Center on Physical Activity and Disability (NCPAD)
Believes everyone can reap benefits from regular physical activity and exercise.
